In Kuhn's first published work he examines work from Aristotle and Newton. The Copernican Revolution led us away from the thought that the earth was the center of the universe. This specific paradigm shift is exactly what Kuhn explain in his second work. Kuhn also compares the thoughts of these men and the "normal science' at the time. Kuhn, T. S. The Copernican Revolution: Planetary Astronomy in the Development of Western Thought. Cambridge: Harvard University Press, 1957.

In this influential work the term "paradigm shift' was coined. Kuhn blew away older theories of science and brought about a thought process of "Thinking outside of the box" His theory was that in some paradigms, science can only go so far. Sometimes what is needed is to look at things completely from a different angle to make scientific progress.
