  • Birth

    Born and named Ernest Nagel in Vágújhely which is now known as Slovakia

    An Introduction to Logic and Scientific Method
    Ernest Nagel's first book, An Introduction to Logic and Scientific Method was written with Morris Cohen who was both the man he studied under and a friend. This book is what contributed to him being such a large contributor to the Philosophy of Science. They managed to bring together theories from Aristotle, Pierce, Dewey, and Russell. Being a logician he stressed the importance of a hypothesis in doing research.
  • Marriage and Children

    In 1935 he Ernest married Edith Haggstrom and later they had two children together.
  • Logic Without Ontology

    Nager studied in Europe and while there studied the works of Wittgenstein and Carnap. In doing so he wanted to adapt their teachings to be more comprehensive. Therefore he wrote his paper Logic without Ontology.
  • Special Lectures

    Nagel spoke at different universities and did special lectures including ones at Berkeley on several of his different theories.   • Death

    Ernest Nager died of pneumonia. "Philosophy is in general not a primary inquiry into the nature of things. It is a reflection on the conclusion of those inquiries that may sometimes terminate, as it did in the case of Spinoza, in a clarified vision of man's place in the scheme of things." -Ernest Nager-
