    Unnamed Guy : Introduction
    An Unknown guy is mailing a package that had been recieved on his door step. The day before he mailed it he had recieved it, he will read out what was found in it. Which was a list that Hannah Baker a teen who has recently committed suicide sent out. She want's him to make sure everyone on that list listens to each of the casettes, because they all have a reason on why she didn't hold on and what made her break down.
  • After School

    Clay Jensen the unknown guy, finds a packet. It is on his porch, he is excited to open it, when he opens it he finds seven tapes in it. He is curious of how he will listen to them and whats going on because they are to old for him.

    Clay is shocked, because Hannah is dead. She killed herself. Hannah says these tapes will explain why she's dead. She also says that the people listening to the tapes are "reasons why" She also says, "Hopefully, neither one will be easy for you"

    Alex is on the tape because he put Hannah down as "Best Ass in the Freshman Class", The problem with the list, Hannah says, is that the person voted worst ass was her then-friend, Jessica Davis. Alex only wrote Hannah's name down because he was mad at Jessica, who he'd been going out with. The more he listens, the more Clay wonders what he did to her – why he's on the tapes. He wonders what people will think about him when they hear whatever it is.

    When Hannah first moved to town, there were two other new kids, Alex Standall and Jessica Davis.
    Hannah and Jessica met through a well-meaning guidance counselor, Miss Antilly, who switched schools later that year.
    Clay remembers that she was replaced by Mr. Porter. Clay remembers a girl telling him that day that she saw an ambulance pulling away from Hannah's house. Hannah says that she and Jessica were both embarrassed that Miss Antilly was trying to pair them up, but they got along anyway.

    He's relieved not to hear anything bad about himself but afraid to find out what Hannah will say he did to hurt her.
    Bracing himself, Clay hits play. At first the volume is so low that he thinks something's wrong with the tape. But it turns out Hannah is just whispering.
    She says this tape is for Tyler Down, who she calls a "Peeping Tom"
  • Casette

    On the tape, Hannah explains: she doesn't hate Courtney. In fact, for a while she thought she and Courtney were actually friends.
    But soon enough, she realized that Courtney was just trying to make Hannah into another one of her groupies, someone who would help her keep up her perfect image.
    The day after Courtney came to Hannah's house, the two girls saw each other in class. They laughed and talked, but then Courtney just left the classroom without saying goodbye.

    This tape will talk about Valentine's Day. Hannah says that before Valentine's Day, the cheerleaders put on a fundraiser for cheer camp.
    For five dollars you could get a list with five phone numbers of people at school who were a good match for you. You filled out a survey describing yourself and your ideal partner.
    In her survey, Hannah described an actual person at their school. She doesn't want to say his name... yet. That person didn't end up on her list of matches.
  • 4A

    Clay gets to Rosie's before his mom; he waits at the counter, just like Hannah had to wait for Marcus Cooley.
    His mom shows up and brings him the tapes. He asks her if she wants to stay and thought it would be nice to talk to her. She doesn't want to disturb him and his friend on their project, though.
    Before she leaves, she gives him money and recommends the malted shakes. She also tells him to be careful.
  • Poetry

    Throughout the tapes she gets closer to the end, but in the book she starts talking about her poetry and what it has done for her, and how it helped her. Hannah talks about how it was her getaway.
  • Conclusion

    Clay can't stop thinking about Hannah, because of something she had mentioned on that tape. And how she had revealed something that filled Clay with guilt, and he feels sorry for it.
