Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday were stopped on the side of Lake Herman Road. The Zodiac killer pulled up beside them and ordered them out of the car. Jensen got out first, and when Faraway was partially out, the Zodiac shot him in the head. Jensen tried to escape.

The Zodiac killer shoots Darlene Farren, 22, and Mike Mageau, 19 in Blue Rock Springs Park. Mageau lives and provides authorities with a description of the Zodiac, but Farren dies. Later that night, the Zodiac calls the Vallejo Police Department and claims responsibility for the Lake Herman murder.

The Zodiac, wearing a hood with eyeholes and a crosshair, approached Bryan Hartnell and Cecelia Shepard who were having a picnic at Lake Berryessa. He claimed to be an escaped convict from Deer Lodge, Montana and said he needed money and a car to escape to Mexico. He ordered Shepard to tie up Hartnell, and stabbed them both in the process. The Zodiac then walked to their car and wrote, "Vallejo/12-20-68/7-4-69/Sept 27-69-6:30/by knife" on the door. Then he called the Napa County sheirffs office.

Cab driver Paul Stine, 29, was shot by the Zodiac killer. It took place just before 10 P.M. at the intersection of Washington and Cherry streets in San Fransisco. After the killing, an officer might have seen the Zodiac killer.

Kathleen Johns, pregnant and with her young daughter were on the way from San Fransisco to Petaluma to visit her mom. The zodiac killer flashed his lights at her, and she pulled over. He said her rear wheel was loose and he offered to fix it for her. Johns accepted, and after the Zodiac was finished tinkering with her wheel, she pulled off and the wheel fell off. He offered to take her to the nearest gas station, but they passed lots of them. She jumped out and survived.
