The North Vietnamese and the South Vietnamese called a cease fire for Tet, their new year. This was broken by the North Vietnamese who infiltrated over 100 South Vietnamese cities. -
King Assassinated
Martin Luther King Jr. is assassinated in memphis Tennessee. The assassin, James Earl Ray, was sentenced to 99 years in jail for the murder. -
America's longest war

Ho Chi Minh dies
Ho Chi Minh, the leader of North Vietnam and the Viet Cong, dies six years before his forces capture Siagon and rename it in his name. -
