The USA in the twentieth century

  • Beginning of the twentieth century

    Rapid economic growth and industrialization. Wages were higher in USA than europe, so alot of people emigrated to help build the country.
    USA didn`t want to get involved in WW1, bet eventualy declared war on on germany April 1917.
  • 1920s

    Booming decade, which brought the automobil, the telephone, electricity, the motion picture and more. But in the 1929 the stock marked chrasehed.
  • 1930s

    1930s was a decade of poverty, massive unemployment and struggle. Towards the end of the decade WW2 broke out in europe.
  • 1940s

    USA didn`t want to get innvolved in WW2. But when the Japanese bombed pearl harbour on the December 7, 1941, USA joined the war. Europe was in ruins, but USA were still intact because none of the fights were in USA.
  • 1950s

    This decade was a good one for USA. People had refrigerators television and cars became common.
  • 1960s

    Decade of war and change. Civil rights, space race, Vietnam war. 1969, Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon.
  • 1970s

    Women rights, end of vietnam war. Environmental issues became important, factories had to shut down because they rusted.
  • 1980s

    Cold war with sovjetunionen, Ronald Reagan. 1989 the Berlin wall came down. Cold war stopped, Madonna, Michael Jackson.

    September 11, 2001, two planes chrashed in the twin towers in manhatten new york, 300 people died, this day are remembered ass "day that changed the world". 2008, Barack Obama became the first african american president.
