When Joanna and Bobbie visit Charmaine, her clay tennis court is gone, her kitchen looks immaculate, and she looks like a hausfrau. Joanna knows that a person doesn't change like that, so she and Bobbie conspire about what makes the women change like this.

Joanna and Bobbie want to move to another town to avoid becoming like the other Stepford wives. They search in nearby towns with their real estate broker Miss Kirgassa.

Joanna babysat Bobbie's kids while Bobbie and Dave went away for a weekend. Bobbie came back polished and not like herself. Joanna starts to fear that she will be turned into a compulsive hausfrau next month.

After having a fight with Walter about moving again, he suggests that she should see a therapist. She tells her therapist all of the events that happened while she was there.

After going to the therapist, she drops by the library, she finds a room full of newspapers on the history of Stepford. There was a women's association, but they disbanded, the men's association got more popular.

After having another fight with Walter, she flees her house to warn Ruthanne, a new tenant in town, about what's been going on. Unfortunately, she gets caught by three men from the men's association. She says she will go home if Bobbie is able to bleed from a cut, they accept her proposal and take her to Bobbie's.
