    Britain, Australia and New Zealand declare war on Germany
    Australia was at war with Germany because the 'Mother Country' Britain declared war with Germany. Australia made a
    volunteer force, the Second Australian Imperial Force (AIF), and sent Divisions of the AIF overseas to support Britain.

    When Prime Minister Robert Gordon Menzies announced that Australia was at war with Germany he said the following speech:
    'Fellow Australians, it is my melancholy duty to inform you officially, that in consequence of a persistence by Germany in her invasion of Poland, Great Britain has declared war upon her and that, as a result, Australia is also at war. No harder task can fall to the lot of a democratic leader than to make such an announcement.'

    Japan attack Pearl Harbour and declare was on the USA
    The Jaspanese attacked Pearl Harbour, Hawaii, by air.
    The day before Japan bombed Pearl Harbour U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt made a final appeal to the Emperor of Japan for peace. With no reply.
    They bombed the American base that was set up at Pearl Harbour in two waves, the first attack wave targets airfields and battleships. The second wave targets other ships and shipyard facilities.
    On the same day Japan declared war on America.

    Japanese bombed Darwin
    Four of the six Japanese aircraft carriers that had attacked Pearl Harbour launched an air sattack against Australia, Darwin.
    The first raid lasted 40 minutes, leaving much damage, when again they attacked, this time the raid lasted for an hour.
    The Japanese killed 253 people, 400 wounded and half of Darwin’s population fled, even the servicemen ran. Three days after the attack 278 servicemen who were not killed or wounded were still missing, having flead south, frightened of another attack.

    Atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    The United States droped two atomic bombs on Japan during World War II, first on August 6 at Hiroshima and the second on August 9 at Nagasaki.
    These attacks are the only use of Nuclear Weapons in war to date.
    At Hiroshima due to a crosswind, the bomb missed the aiming point, the Aioi Bridge, by almost 800 feet and detonated directly over Shima Surgical Clinic.
    With the two bombs around 300,000 people were killed, and many more injured.
