Madame Loisel uses her husbands savings of 400 francs to buy a nice dress for the party. He reluctantly gives her the money.

Necklace

Madame Loisel realizes she has no nice jewlery to go with her dress, so she goes to her friend, Madame Forestier and asks to borrow a nice necklace.

Party

Madame Loisel and her husband go to the party and Madame Loisel is the center of attention because she is so beautiful.

Loses Necklace

Oct 21, 1881

Madame Loisel realizes she lost the necklace she borrowed early in the morning and she and her husband spent several hours searching for it.

Buys New Necklace

Oct 25, 1881

Madame Loisel takes all the money she and her husband have and buys a brand new necklace for Madame Forestier.

Madame Loisel Pays Off Debt

Nov 21, 1891

Madame Loisel and her husband give up any luxuries they had and work hard for ten years to pay off the monstrous debt from the new necklace. When the debt is finally paid off, Madame Loisel tells Madame Forestier about how she lost the necklace. Madame Forestier then reveals to Madame Loisel that the necklace she lost was a fake and wasn't worth very much money at all.
