Cecelia was born May 20th, 2000. She was four and a half pounds and four weeks premature. Even though she was premature, she seemed healthy. She needed neonatal care to make sure she was able to regulate her body temperature at the time. After five days in the hospital she was able to go home. Cecelia had a low birth weight when they are born is less than 2,500 (about 5.5 pounds). It is a high rick of death for low birth weight babies expecially during their first year of life. (p.101-102)

    Skateboard Accident
At the age of 10 years Cecilia got into a skateboard accident. The doctor said that she has a sustained injury in the left hemisphere of her head and is expected to have learning and concentration problems. The left side of the human brain is the Wernicke's Area. That area is responsible for language comprehension. (p. 650) So Cecilia may have problems learning and understanding words.
  • Slightly Slurring Speech

    Slightly Slurring Speech
It has been 2 years since Cecilia got into a skateboard accident where she injured the left side of her head. The doctor had first said that she may have trouble with learning and concentrating because the Wernicke's Area may have been effected but she has been slurring speech. She has probably damaged her Broca's Area too because that is on the left lobe of the brain too and it is responsible for speech production. (p. 642) Once her Broca's Area fully recovers, she will be speaking normal.
