    Streb Graduates from College
    Streb graduates in 1972 from the State University of New York Brockport in Modern Dance. She also holds a Master's of the Arts in the Humanties and Social Thought from New York University, which she acquired a few years after graduating from SUNY Brockport. Streb was also presented with two honorary Doctorates from SUNY Brockport and Rhode Island College.

    Streb Expands Her Horizons

    From 1972-1975, Streb became very ineterested in experimental groups, such as that of Molissa Felney, and performed with them for several years before returing to New York CIty in 1975. She also worked with Margaret Jenkins in San Francisco for two years before moving back to NYC.

    Streb, the High-Flying Dame

    Streb herself was involved directly in her own pieces, which involved strenuous phsical activity as well as tremendous courage. That is, until 2010, when she decided her ability at her age (48 years) was becoming the subject of her work rather than the work itself. After this, her pieces became slightly less intense, using things such as passages and projections to create a different appeal.

    Streb founds her famous company, STREB/ Ringside, in 1975. The company combines dance, athletics, boxing, rodeo, circus acts, and Hollywood stunt-work to form a style that Streb calls "POPACTION".

    In 1985, Streb makes the decision to change the name of her company from STREB/RIngside to simply STREB.

    Steb is the recipient of countless awards and fellowships, which span a length of 30 years in the time over which they have been awarded. They include: the Guggenheim Fellowship (1987), Brandeis Creative Arts Award (1991), and a Doris Duke Artist Award (2013).
  • Streb SLAM's an Outreach Program

    In 2003, Streb established SLAM (STREB Lab for Action Mechanics) in Wiliamsburg, which is loacted within Brooklyn, New York. SLAM’s doors are always open for the community to come in and watch rehearsals and even take classes if they wanted.

    Streb Writes a Novel
    Streb's first and only novel to date, "How to Become an Extreme Action Hero", was published by The Feminist Press in 2010.
  • Streb Hits the Big Screen

    Streb is the subject of the 2014 documentary "BORN TO FLY: Elizabeth Streb VS Gravity", directed by Catherine Gund; the documentary was screened at festivals across the nation, followed by international scrrenings in theaters. Streb and her company have also been featured in "PopAction" by Michael Blackwood, as well as many TV spots on channels and shows such as The David Letterman Show, BBC World News, Nickelodeon, and ABC Nightly News with Peter Jennings.
