Ponnie and jonah get shipped out by their mother to North Carolina to stay the summer with their father. Ronnie is quite the rebel and is a hard-to-handle-girl for her dad, but he goes along. The first person Ronnie meets is Blaze. Kind of Will though since he ran into her. Then Marcus. Blaze becomes jealous of Ronnie because Marcus is ignoring her and decides to slip CD's in Ronnie's bag when they leave a store. Small town, big crime. Total (1006) -

You learn more about Steve, Ronnie's dad, and realize that his passion for the piano comes from a baptist church pastor. Ronnie keeps saying that it wasn't her who stole the CD's and Steve believes her. They found a nest of Loggerhead turtle eggs and Ronnie sleeps outside to keep the racoon away. Will has to call 3 times to get a cage up around them. He takes Ronnie fishing, to the aquarium and around. Ashley, Will's ex, makes it seem like Will does that to every girl and Ronnie believes it, for -

a bit, but then after talkiing to Will, she realizes that's not true. She also decides that she is going back to New york because she doesn't fit in anywhere. Ronnie continues to spend the summer with Will. And after going to his house, a huge mansion because his family is very wealthy, Ronnie realizes that Will's mom does not approve of her. Marcus decides to crash the wedding reception by loosening up the tent spikes and then fighting with Will to knock the tents over. Will's mother thinks it was all Ronnies fault and it all goes down from there. Will leaves for Vanderbilt after Ronnie gets very mad at him and they don't talk at all for a while. You learn that Steve has cancer and there is no way to stop it. he asks her to not ask the doctors to do anything when his time comes. Ronnie spends all her time with him. Total (1277) -

Ronnie stays behind in North Carolina to help her father as he gets worse, while Jonah goes back to New York with their mom. Ronnie discovers her father's unfinished song and finishes it for him. She was able to play it for him before he dies. After he passes away, Ronnie starts to go to Julliard and she gets a phone call from Will. He was standing right behind her and was staying in NY.
