in this section, we get introduced to katniss and peeta and the hunger games. the dystopian government they live in is set in the future made up of districts that have to send 2 kids, a boy and a girl, between the ages of 12-18 to fight to the death in a competition. katniss and peeta are the ones picked at the reaping for district 12. kjthey are quickly sent to the capitol where they meet their mentor. for 2 weeks they train and get introduced to everyone in the capitol. -

they have to get sponsors for them to survive. haymitch, their mentor, puts a lot of effort in katniss so she can win. peeta and katniss ahve to pretend they are in love so they have a chance at winning. the 2 weeks go by and then the games start. they get thrown in the arena and 13 kids die the first night. katniss is able to get a backpack full of supplies. katniss survives the first night but realizes that petta has teamed up with the careers. -

she over hears them talking about trying to find her. katniss spends her day trying to find water and by the afternoon she finds a pond. she satys there and drinks a lot of water ebfore resting ina tree. she falls asleep and is woken up by the fire around her. she gets out of the tree and runs and realizes the gamemakers are doing this so the game doesnt get boring. the fire finally stops but not before a fireball skids over her thigh and burns her. she hears the careers and runs. -

she clibms a tree and none of the careers can reach her. they try to throw arrows at her but miss. they decided to wait her out and katniss stays in the tree. her legs burns really bad. she sees a little girl, rue on the other tree and rue points to something which are deadly wasps. she thinks she can cut it down and drop the nest on the acreers but before she cn she sees that haymitch got her some medicine for her leg and after she puts it on, she falls asleep. -

in the morning, her and rue decided she should cut down the nest. she does but some wasps sting her. she sees one of the careers die and takes her bow and arrows. she is disoriented from the wasps and peeta saves her life.she falls asleep and when she wakes up she finds out rue has helped her stigns and burn. they talk ans share food and decide they are going to blow up the food of the careers. they hatch a plan and get going. -

katniss goes to where the food is and rue makes a fire to distract them. katniss uses her arrows and blows up the food. she gets thrown from the blast of the explosion and then decideds she needs to hurry and leave before they come back. 222 pages read. running total 1004
