The Japanese attacked the Naval base of Pearl Harbor by Honolulu Hawaii. The fighter planes planned a sneak attack early Sunday morning. It happened because Japan wanted to expand their nation to the South Pacific. They wanted to destroy the US Naval fleet in the Pacific.

The Japanese made an airfield on the Guadalcanal and America landed there and overran the airfield. After Pearl Harbor the Japanese moved toward the South Pacific threatening our Ferry route connecting the United States to Australia.

America went to Betio and expected to take it over easily. They took over the island after a 76 hour battle. This was a prime target for the US to reach the marshals.The US walked through high waters to get to Betio.

America dropped a bomb on Hiroshima. It immediately killed 80,000 people. They wanted to bring the war to a quick end. The Enola Gay dropped the bomb. President Harry S. Truman called for Japans surrender and if they didn't they should expect another "Rain of Ruin" from the air.
