The first European to arrive in Ohio was French explorer Robert de La Salle in 1669. He claimed the land for the French. -
The French and Indian war
The French and Indian war was between French and British. it lasted from 1754 to 1763. George Washington fought along side the British. The British eventually won the war and took the Ohio region in 1763. -
Northwest Territory
When revolutionary war ended, Ohio become part of the United States in 1783 and then part of Northwest Territory in 1787. -
Becoming State
In 1788, General Rufus led number of settlers to Ohio and Marietta was the first permanent settlement. 1803, Ohio was admitted to the Union (United States) as the 17th state. The first capital of Ohio was Chillicothe and Columbus was later changed to the permanent capital of Ohio.
