The History Of My Thrift Finds

  • Polka dots

    Polka dots
In 1928, Disney introduced Minnie Mouse who featured her famous red polkadotted dress and matching bow. Who knew she would be such a trend-setter? In the 1930's, the polka dot pattern exploded in popularity and polka dot dresses started popping up everywhere! 10 years later and Frank Sinatra wrote a song called "Polkda dots and Moonbeams". This song truly captured the essence of this popular fashion trend.
  • Denim Vest

    Denim Vest
In the late 1940's, Levi Strauss, the famous jean company, started making light denim jackets. This caused denim to shift from workwear to casual day wear. In the 1950's, the famous Marilyn Monroe featured a denim jacket in one of her shoots
  • Plaid Skirt

    Plaid Skirt
After being popular in the United States for several decades, plaid became ubiquitous in the 1970's. This time, however, the trend took on a more liberated, carefree characteristic. Skirts, specifically, were part of one's everyday wardrobe and were many times paired with a matching blazer.
  • The Leather Skirt

    The Leather Skirt
Leather became popular amongst the punk culture and heavy metals fans in the 1980's. Ironically, although this group of people were determined to go against the popular trend, leather and the "grundge" look has been a longstanding anti-trend for a while now. However, this specific skirt is faux leather. In the past few years, fashion has developed a more eco-conscious approach to the materials used for clothing.
  • High Waisted Trousers

    High Waisted Trousers
The high-waisted trend originally started in the 1940's and 50's, but it wasn't until the 90's that this style reached it's peak. Now, in the 21st century, high waisted bottoms have made a comeback. Of course, I have no complaints. Almost every skirt, pair of pants and shorts I own are high waisted. I love the look, and they are super comfortable.
