  • First Public School Opens

    The first school in the United States was built in Boston in 1635. This school was named the Boston Latin School.
  • The Homestead Act

    The Homestead Act
    This act stated that any adult citizen that had never beared arms against the US would be able to claim 160 acres of land.
  • Plessy vs. Fergueson

    Plessy vs. Fergueson
    Supreme court decided that racial segregation was "separate but equal" but it actually wasn't. This case was not actually separate but equal because they all had the same kinds of things but the whites had the better version of everything.

    This court case violated the 14th amendment and ruled that racial segregation throughout public schools was unconstitutional. This law was made because of forced segregation.

    Title IX was made to begin giving women more rights. This act was also there to say that no person can be excluded because of their sex and they also cannot be discriminated from any education program.

    This act is here to make sure that each and every student no matter who they are and no matter what kind of disability they may have, they still deserve a free and equal education.
