In 1809, a crude telegraph was invented in Bavaria by Samuel Soemmering. for the next 60 years or so, this would be the means of distance communications until the telephone was to come along, Bell came to his invention due to his plans to find a way to improve the telegraph.

Samuel Morse creates the morse code system to communicate and transmit signals over long distances. this was a very affective system, still used throughout the est of the century, and into the 20th century.

Alexander Graham Bell wins the patent battle with Elijah Grey to create the first telephone. He came to the invention from wanting to improve the telegraph and then cam across the idea to develop the telephone.

At the Galvin Manufacturing Co. a team created the first radio transciever. Donald Hings improved this invention during the second world war. this allowed for quicker direct commincation between people rather than short distance telephones and morse code deciphering.

First call made on a mobile phone positioned the a car. this was groundbreaking now allowing for commincation that is not connected to a ground line.

The first hand-held mobile phone was demonstrated by John F. Mitchelland Dr Martin Cooper of Motorola in 1973, using a handset weighing around 2.2 pounds. with the new hand-held phone people could now travel wherever they want and be able to communicate with anyone around the world at the touch of a button.

By this time period we believe that people will communicate through small devices that will allow for them to see the person they are talking to in a hologram, like that in StarWars. With facetime talking now we are not that far away from this technology.
