Tomiko's Mother dies
Tomiko's mother dies after a battle with meningitis. -
Tomiko is hung over the cesspit.
Tomiko is ung over the cesspit for punishment when she cooks her fathers planting seeds for next year. She gets tied at the wrists and ankles, and thrown in a knapsack, and hung over thecesspit for hours. -
Nini dies from a stray bullet to the head.
At Komesu beach, the children hide in a hole in the sand, and when they all were asleep, they awake to find Nini dead from a stray bullet. They shortly after bury him there, and vow to return to gove him a proper burial. -
The children get seperated from each other.
The children trek away from Komesu beach, and eventually get seperated. Tomiko is on her own. -
Tomiko is almost killed by a soldier.
A soldier kicks Tomiko out of a cave. They all call her a bad urchin, and he said, "It is too dangerous to let you live, I'm going to kill you!" Tomiko barely gets away. -
Tomiko falls down a cliff
When Tomiko gets away from the soldier, she stumbled off a cliff. She get knocked unconcious, loses her shoes, and many other important items. She is saved by the one tree growing on the cliff. It then rolls down the side, nearly kiling Tomiko again. -
Tomiko drinks from a stream.
The stream was covered with dead people. Everywhere. She saw only one alive woman, who was bloody. She looked up once at Tomiko, and shortly after, died. -
Tomiko meets an old couple.
Tomiko is wandering around for a few days after drinking from a stream. She then finds a hole in the ground, and decides to go in. He toes barely touch the bottom but she goes in. There she finds an old couple welcoming her. -
Tomiko comes out of the hole, waving a white flag.
Tomiko comes out of the hole, She is holding a triangular white flag made from the old man's loincloth. She walks all over, and a man takes her picture. -
The children are reunited
The children are finally reunited after being separated for some time. They all get on a truck heading for an internment center.
