The girl on the train.

  • Two years ago

Two years ago; after Rachel failed to get pregnant, she fell into a depression and started drinking in great quantities. Tom divorced her then, tired of her condition, so she had to move out. She moves from her old place in Witney to an old friend called Cathy.
  • Tom

Meanwhile has Tom a new wife, Anna. Together they have one daughter. (They live together at Rachel's and Tom's old place. Some houses further down lives Jess and Jason.)
  • Every Morning

Every morning, Rachel is still taking the same train, pretending to go to work. And every morning the train has to stop at a signal to let another train pass. During that time she has a prefect view on a house, whose inhabitants usually are sitting on the terrace, enjoying the morning sun. After a while she’s given them names, Jess and Jason and is fantasizing the perfect live story for them. She wants to pretend someone out there has a perfect life, because she's far from that.
  • Not over it

Rachel is still not over the divorce; she keeps calling him, is writing e-mails and keeps strolling around their house. Anna hates her for that.
  • Being flabbergasted

One morning, when she’s on her usual train, on her usual seat, something is not right. She sees Jess kissing another man. For Rachel it feels like her little world with a perfect life is falling apart.
  • A visit

On the evening two days later, she’s completely drunk and in that condition, she wants to visit her ex-husband.
  • The next morning

The next morning she doesn’t remember anything. When she wakes up, she’s wounded on her head, there’s blood everywhere, and she does have bruises on her arm. Tom has left messages on her responder, telling she’s scared Anna, she was wasted and he was looking for her and he wanted to make sure she got home safely. She has blacked out, she is just able to remember some fragments.
  • Police

The police are waiting for her; they have a few questions about last night. Someone has seen her. She was acting suspicious. They ask her a few questions, what she was doing in Witney, when she did get home, if she had drunken. She doesn’t answer with the truth; that she’s having a total black out, after she has drunken and that she get home, really late, around 5 o’clock this morning. She get’s to know that Megan, her Jess, is missing since.
  • Scott

The next day she’s reading more about the case, about her life and her husband Scott. If someone knows anything helpful, please request Scott. She has the feeling to help to find her. She knows something no one other knows. She’s visiting the police again, to get things straight. She want’s to help. She writes Scott an e-mail saying she knows Megan from her little Gallery she had and knows something. Something he has to know.
  • Dr. Kamal Abdic

They get in touch with each other. Together they find out that her affair is her therapist Dr. Kamal Abdic. He is getting arrested but released because of insufficient references. So Rachel is deciding to make herself an appointment, behind Scott’s back, to check him out. But it turns out that he’s one of the good ones and is also helping Rachel to get further with her blackout problem.
  • Anna

Then Megan’s body turns up dead.
  • Anna

Anna, Tom’s new wife, is tired of Rachel calling Tom. She tells the police. Anna was also suspicious about the fact that Rachel is spending time with Scott.
  • Who's the murderer

When the police have Scott in for questioning, he get’s to know that Rachel never knew Megan. Thereupon Scott get’s drunk and allures Rachel to come to his house, he needs some company. But then he’s locking Rachel into a room. She finds a smashed picture on the floor. She leaves then, doesn’t want to have anything more to do with him. She’s wondering if he could be the murderer.
  • Clue

But then she remembers something important about that one night. She has seen Tom, getting into a car with a woman. It couldn’t have been Anna as she knows from Tom and on the other hand, she didn’t have her ugly baby with her.
  • Phone

Meanwhile, Anna has an argument with Tom, then he leaves to go to the gym but forgets his bag. Anna is trying to hack his computer password and is drinking wine. She becomes more and more like Rachel. She isn’t able to enter the right password, so she gives up and combs through Tom’s gym bag.She discovers an uncharged mobile phone, which she has never seen before. She charges it and tries to find whose phone it is. It's Megan’s.
  • Confrontation I

Rachel wants to confront Anna about what she knows. That Tom is a liar, making others believe what he’s saying. He has full control over others.
  • Confrontation II

Then Tom is back home, and surprisingly he admit's everything. That he cheated on Anna with Megan. (Anna knows now; Rachel is a creepy stalker, but not all calls were from her.) Because Tom didn't answer all her calls, Megan met him on the street, where he was beating up Rachel for scaring Anna all the time. She didn't see them, Megan just felt someone was watching her when she got into the car with Tom.
  • Confrontation III

After they stopped, she told him that she's pregnant. Tom wanted an abortion, not so does Megan. After he said mean things to her it ended in an argument, she said she would expose their affair. Then she fell and hit her head. There was blood everywhere. She was badly wounded, so he had to end her forever.
  • Ending

After the confession, Rachel tries to run away. out of the kitchen where they talked. She could grip a corkscrew, which she uses for self-protection when Tom is attacking her. She stabs him the corkscrew in the neck and he dies. Anna comes to, she doesn't help him, no, she made sure he is really dead and twists in the corkscrew, deeper and deeper.
  • New life

After a few weeks, Rachel goes on vacation, trying to figure out what she wants to do in her life.
