  • Hazel meets Augustus

    Hazel meets Augustus
After being diagnosed with clinical depression, Hazel's doctor urges her to attend a support group in 'The Literal Heart Of Jesus', and her mom concurs, and after much protest, she finally obliges. Once there, she notices an unfamiliar - but admittedly attractive boy staring at her, whom happens to be a friend of Issac's named Augustus. The two talk, and he invites her over to his house to watch V for Vendetta after comparing her to Natalie Portman, and Hazel agrees.
  • An Imperial Affliction

    An Imperial Affliction
Whilst over at Augustus' house, he asks Hazel what her favorite book is, and after mulling over whether to answer truthfully or not, she finally tells him that her favorite book is 'probably An Imperial Affliction'. Afterwards, he asks whether it features zombies or stormtroopers, and she tells him no, but he agrees to read this 'terrible book wih a boring title that does not contain stormtroopers' anyway. In exchange for this, he tells Hazel to read 'The Prince of Dawn'.
  • Emailing Van Houten

    Emailing Van Houten
Despite being told by Hazel that Peter Van Houten - author of An Imperial Afflication was nearly impossible to track down, Augustus manages to find his assistant's email adress and contacts him through that. Surprisingly, he answers, and Augustus excitedly shares the news with Hazel as if it were the best gift he could give her. In resonse, she asks for the adress, and spends two hours formulating an email of her own to send to him.
  • A Wish Come True

    A Wish Come True
Unfortunately for Hazel, Peter Van Houten refused to answer her questions via email or phone. Instead, he urged her to visit him if ever in Amsterdam and he would disclose the information then. However, her family had no money to travel with, and her Wish - a finance for travel provided to cancer kids - was used up. Augustus, however, had not yet used his Wish, and insisted on taking Hazel to Amsterdam to meet Van Houten. He told her this on a picnic, and Hazel excitedly agreed.

    Unfortunate Events
Soon after the excitement of going to Amsterdam, Hazel awakes in the night with a skull-splitting headache and is rushed to the hospital. There, they reveal that it was caused by a lack of oxygen, and they drain her lungs. Albeit as a result of this event, the trip to Amsterdam is of course, postponed until she has recovered. Augustus visits her there, and promptly gives her another response Van Houten had written to one of his letters.
  • Trip to Amsterdam

    Trip to Amsterdam
Finally, Hazel, Augustus, and her mom all arrive in Amsterdam via flight. The first day they spend for themselves; Hazel and Augustus go to dinner at a local restaraunt named Oranjee whilst her mom goes about her own business. Hazel wears a blue flower print, forever-21 dress, whilst Augustus wears a tailored black suit and light blue dress shirt - which also happens to be the designated outfit for his funeral, should he die.
  • Meeting Van Houten

    Meeting Van Houten
At first, Van Houten - behind closed doors, although Hazel and Augustus could still hear every word - argued with his assistant, Lidewij, that his offer had been a rhetorical one, and that they must leave at once. She refused, however, and insisted that Peter at least meet them, and so he did. Van Houten only answers one of Hazel's questions though before he resorts to insulting them and promptly getting drunk, and after practically shouting at him for answers, Hazel and Augustus finally leave.
  • First kiss

    First kiss
After exiting, Lidewij rushes after them, eyeliner running down her face, dully horrified and apologizes profousely. Afterwards, the three go to visit the Anne Frank house, and whilst up in the attic, Hazel disregarded her fear of hurting Augustus, her fears of being a grenade and blowing up, wounding everyone around her, and together they shared their first kiss. Though, as happiness for her usually is, it was fleeting, for just a day later, Augustus revealed that his cancer had spread....
  • 'Forever Within Limited Days'

    'Forever Within Limited Days'
Augustus insisted that Issac and Hazel each write him a eulogy and read it at a prefuneral, as he wanted to attend his funeral, and just in case he couldn't as a ghost, this was a precaution. In her eulogy, Hazel stated that 'She would not share their love story, because as all great love stories, it would die with them," and "She could not tell him how grateful she was for their little infinity, and she would not trade it for the world." Augustus died eight days later.
  • Okay

    Okay
A while after Augustus' passing, Hazel discovers he had been conversing with Van Houten, asking him to write a eulogy for her - or, at least, construct a readable finish of his own thoughts and emotions. After contacting Lidewij again, she forwards Hazel the letters. Augustus wrote about his admiration of her, and ended the writings with "You don't get to chose if you get hurt in this world, but you get some say in who hurts you. I like my choices. I hope she likes hers." 'I do, Augustus. I do'
