The Fault in Our Stars

  • Support group.

    Hazel doesn't want to do anything or go anywhere, because she is terminally ill with thyroid cancer and her lungs keep giving her issues. She sits in her room all day and reads most of the time. Her mom wants to get her out of the house so she makes Hazel go to a cancer support group at their church.
  • Hazel meets Augustus.

    One of the times Hazel is at support group, her friend Isaac, who has eye cancer, brings a friend with him. The boy will not stop staring at Hazel throughout the whole meeting. After it's over, Hazel confronts him. They talk for a while and Augustus invites Hazel over to his house to watch a movie. She accepts.
  • Augustus' house.

    Hazel goes to Augustus's house. The watch a movie and he suggests a book for her to read. Hazel tells Augustus that she will read it if he reads her favorite book, An Imperial Affliction. They both agree to read the books.
  • Blind Heartbreak

    Augustus and Hazel try to comfort their friend Isaac who hs recenlty had surgery to remove his one working eye and the cancer that was infecting it. Isaac is in the midst of an emotional breakdown because his long time girlfriend broke up with him because she didn't want to date a blind boy. To help numb the pain Augustus lets him break all of his basketball trophies that he hated.
  • An Imperial Affliction.

    Augustus reads An Imperial Affliction. The book ends in the middle of a sentence, and leaves a lot of cliffhangers. Augustus calls Hazel and keeps asking her questions about how the book ends, and what happens after it ends. Hazel tells Augustus that she doesn't know, and no one knows, because the author, Peter Van Houten, never wrote a sequel, or an epilogue, or anything.
  • Contacting Mr. Van Hounten

    Hazel and Gus email Peter Van Houten. Hazel has tried to contact Peter Van Houten many times, asking questions about the end of the book. She could never get a hold of him. Augustus found an e-mail that Peter Van Houten's assistant replied to. He tells Hazel the e-mail address and she sends a message telling her story, and how she wants to know how the book ends.
  • Peter Van Houten replies.

    After a while, Hazel gets an e-mail from Peter Van Houten's assistant, Lidewij. She says that Peter would love to tell her the ending, but it cant be over e-mail or phone, or anything that Hazel might be able to record. Lidewij says that the only way that they would be able to tell her would be for her to come to Amsterdam.
  • Make A Wish

    There is an organization that helps cancer kids dreams come true. They grant each patient one wish. However, Hazel has already used hers on a trip to Disneyland. Augustus says that Hazel can use his wish, since he didn't use it yet. Also, Augustus wants to go and find out the ending too.
  • Flying to Amsterdam

    Hazel, Augustus, and Hazel's mom all fly to Amsterdam. The wish granting organization pays for all the expenses throughout their entire trip.
  • Dinner Date

    Hazel and Augustu get all dressed up to go and eat at a very expensive restaurant. Augustus wears the tuxedo he had picked out to wear at his funeral, back when he thought he was going to die. They drink champagne and have a good time overall.
  • The Truth Comes Out

    Hazel and Augustus find out the truth about Peter Van Houten. After a day in Amsterdam, it is finally time for Hazel and Augustus to meet Peter Van Houten, and they are super excited. When they get to Peter's house, before letting them inside, Peter opens the door to see who it is, then closes it and goes to complain to Lidewij. They hear the whole conversation. It turns out Peter Van Houten had no intention of actually telling them what happened. He didn't think that they would actually come
  • The Anne Frank House

    Peter Van Houten's assistant takes Gus and Hazel sight seeing to the Anne Frank House. This is where Hazel and Augustus have their first kiss.
  • Breaking the News

    After the whole thing with Peter Van Houten, Augustus tells Hazel some devastating news. His cancer is back. It gets worse and worse every day. The doctors told him he doesn't have very much time left. Hazel is really upset.
  • Headed Home

    Augustus, Hazel, and Hazel's mom fly back home.
  • Death Strikes

    After a few weeks of Augustus getting more and more sick, Augustus dies. Hazel is devastated and she cries and closes herself in her room for a few days. Hazel has to speak at the funeral and it is really hard for her. Peter Van Houten shows up at the funeral and Hazel is offended. Peter says that Augustus had sent him a letter and told him to come to the funeral before he had died.
  • The Letter

    Peter Van Houten says that Gus wrote him a letter requesting his presence at the funeral. Isaac told Hazel that Augustus had said that he was writing something for her a few weeks before he died. Hazel searched everywhere for it and had no luck in finding it. Finally, she realized that it was the letter that Peter Van Houten had from Augustus. Hazel e-mails Lidewij and asks her if she can go and get the letter for her. Lidewij is happy to help and she sends what the pages said to Hazel.
