In 1967, Ralph Baer and his colleagues at Sanders Associates, Inc. developed a prototype for the first multiplayer, multiprogram video game system. The prototype was a vacuum tube circuit that could connect to a television set and allow two people to play together at once. -
The Magnavox Odyssey
After the licensing of the technology of the Brown Box prototype The Magnavox Odyssey was released to the market in 1972. The first official home system on the market. -
Atari’s PONG
During the year 1973 Atair’s Pong game on the arcade machine was very popular thus they decided to release the game as a home console in 1975 -
Sega SG-1000
This was the first ever console released on the market by SEGA it wasn’t that popular, but it laid out the ground work the launch of the Sega Master System released a few years after. -
Nintendo Entertainment System
Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was the best seller amount set all the consoles of that generation and the popularity of both SEGA and Nintendo only grew. -
Sega Genesis
The Genesis was Sega’s number one console of all time. It preformed extremely well and was quite popular. -
Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Competition between Sega and Nintendo only got more intense with the release of Sega Genesis in response Nintendo came out with Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES.) -
PlayStation
Sony made a strong start into the market with the release of their first console the PlayStation in 1994. -
PlayStation 2
After 6 years Sony released the next console in their line of PlayStations. PlayStation 2 the successor of the original. -
Nintendo GameCube
With the release of the the Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo switched to a DVD-ROM GameCube rather than continuing with their regular cartridge based consoles. -
Xbox
Microsoft enters the console industry in 2001 with the launch of the Xbox featuring Xbox Live an online gaming service. The Xbox was very well received by the public.
