    In the 1990’s fashion was filled with close-fitting cloche hats, low waisted dresses, “bobbed” hair cuts and the tubular dresses. The fashion had just started to evolve at this time after World War 1. Jean Patou was a new designer at the time, he began making two- piece sweater and skirt outfits and designing clothes for active women. The 1920’s was also the year of the Great Gatsby and the clothing was inspired by that.

    In the 1930’s designers began designing dresses and other clothes to be more loose fitting and comfortable. Very lightweight fabrics such as crepes and lighter satins were used to make the elegant clothing. Chanel began designing very sophisticated gowns and tight fitting dresses, not a lot of colour and pattern was used in this fashion era but the clothes were very elegant and clean.

    In the 1940’s women wore clothes with squared shoulders, narrow hips and skirts that ended just bellow the knee. Tailored suits were also very popular at this time. Blouses were also very popular paired with skirts. Pants also gained some popularity for women in the 1940’s. clothes also started containing a lot more colour and pattern. At this time teenagers began wearing sport sweaters with knee length skirts and bobby socks.

    This was when “fuller” skirts became all the rage. Women also started wearing a lot more colour and the clothes were very voluminous. In the 1950’s Christian Dior’s “New Look” began, the clothes were mainly full-skirts, pointed bust, small waist, and rounded shoulder lines. Women also started wearing a lot more pearls and gloves to complete their looks. The development of synthetic fabrics happened in the 1950’s, some fabrics that were used in tis year include nylon, orlon and Dacron.

Full dresses and skirts were worn also with low necklines and close fitting waists. Capri trousers were all the rage for women looking for a casual look. Stiletto heels became very popular in 1960, the were worn to compliment the classic elegant dresses and gowns.

    there were many different trends in the 1980’s, shoulder pads were very popular in the time they were worn by very famous people at the time such as Princess Diana and Betty White. Mini skirts were also very popular at this time, young women and teenagers loved wearing mini skirts, denim mini skirts were the most popular by far. They were made out of other fabrics such as knit and leather. Leg warmers were one of the top fads of the 1980’s.

Baby-doll dresses, oversized shirts, sweaters, floral dresses, wedged heels and many more were the fashion trends in the 1990’s. “Punk” and “Gothic” fashion was also quite popular during this decade, some fashion trends included ripped jeans, patched fabrics, long sleeved flannels and doc martins.

    we look at this decade to be the “Modern” era because we still live in it. We have different rends and fashion coming out each year. In the begging of the trend was “Boho -chic” it was a combination of eccentric styles influenced by gypsies, hippies, and artistic clothing. Clothing items included tunics, peasant tops, sarongs, salwar suits etc. a lot of natural fabrics and natural colours were used in this era. Short, flowing skirts, furry gilets, flowing tunics, cropped jackets, were popular.
