The Dunphy Family Timeline

  • Phil Dunphy

    Phil Dunphy
    Phil Dunphy is born to parents Gracie and Frank Dunphy, with no health problems. He is the only child and forms strong relationships with both of his parents. He works for a marketing firm, but enjoys spending time with his two children and de-stresses by watching sports on TV.
  • Claire Dunphy

    Claire Dunphy
    Claire Dunphy is born to parents Jay and DeDe Pritchett, with no health problems. She has one older sister who she looks up to as her role model. She loves working with kids and started a day care from her home, which turned into an ideal job after she had two kids of her own.
  • Wedding

    Wedding
    Phil and Claire get married in a Catholic Church. Both of them grew up Catholic, but neither of them strongly practice any more. They buy a home together in Brookfield, WI, which is not far from Phil's job. This is the home where Claire first opens up her day care. Soon after getting married they decide to start trying to have a child.
  • Luke Dunphy

    Luke Dunphy
    Luke Dunphy is born healthy with no apparent health problems. Shortly before his first birthday he is diagnosed with allergic rhinitis. He is a happy boy who likes to take care of his sister. He is very active and gets into everything in the home.
  • Haley Dunphy

    Haley Dunphy
    Haley Dunphy is born with no health problems. She is a lively baby who is very interested in her surroundings. She is eager to walk any where she can and likes to be up on her feet.
  • Grandma and Grandpa babysit

    Grandma and Grandpa babysit
    Phil's parents, Grandma and Grandpa Dunphy babysit Luke and Haley for the night while Phil and Claire spend some alone time out on the town. Grandma and Grandpa Dunphy live nearby and are very helpful with Luke and Haley. They love to help watch the kids and also like so spoil them, especially because they are their only grandchildren!
  • Feeding disorder of infancy

    Haley is diagnosed with feeding disorder of infancy after she was not gaining weight appropriately and constantly spitting up her feedings.
  • Michelle Pritchett visits

    Michelle Pritchett visits
    Claires only sister, Michelle, is home on leave from the Army for Thanksgiving. She meets Haley for the first time. Although she is not actively involved in the lives of Haley and Luke because of her duty to the Army, she loves getting updates on them from Claire. She is supportive of her sister and brother-in-law, and is always excited when she gets to come home and see them. Claire and Michelle's parents, Jay and DeDe also join for Thanksgiving.
  • Dysfunction of Eustachian Tube

    Dysfunction of Eustachian Tube
    Claire and her mother, DeDe, take Haley to the doctor where she is diagnosed with dysfunction of the eustachian tube. The doctors want to look into possible allergies as the cause. Claire's parents live nearby and are always eager to lend a hand with their grandchildren. They help with Luke and around the house during several of Haley's medical problems and doctors visits.
  • Stress relief

    Stress relief
    Claire and Phil spend time with several neighbors on the weekends to destress. Their friends all have kids around the same ages as Luke and Haley, so some times the kids join and some times they all find babysitters. Phil and Claire's parents are always their babysitters. Spending time with friends is a way for Claire and Phil to relax, especially during the difficult times of trying to find out what is wrong with Haley.
  • Allergy Testing

    Haley is diagnosed with several unidentified allergies, which they later discover are to dairy products, eggs, oats, peanuts, tree nuts, and wheat. Because Claire is still breast feeding, she too has to cut these foods out of her diet. This is a stressful and difficult time for Claire, as she has to discover a whole new diet. Phil is very supportive and tries to eat in a similar way as Claire.
  • Family Time

    Family Time
    The Dunphy family likes summer time when they get to spend time outdoors. On the weekends when Phil isn't working and Claire isn't running her daycare, they like to spend time as a family, doing things such as going to the pool. Phil thinks it is important that they don't let any of Haley's medical issues or even Luke's allergies hold them back from going out of the house and doing fun activities.
  • Haley's Procedure

    Haley's Procedure
    Haley goes under anesthesia for an EGD with pH impedance, in hopes of finding more information regarding her GERD and eosinophilic esophagitis. Claire and Phil appear worn out at the hospital. Claire feels run down with all of the time and energy she has put into trying to find out what is wrong with Haley. They are feeling frustrated that they are not receiving enough support from the doctors they are working with, but are grateful for the support from family and friends.
