Even though this is at the beginning of her time in the Annex, she is confused by all the adults quarrels. She promise herself that in the future she will not be like the Van Daan's or her parents and that she won't bicker with others over unnecessary things. This shows character development because she is striving to change the way she acts for the better. This applies to my theme because although she had to give a lot up, she is learning new things from the people she saved.

On this day, all was joyful cause they heard the cabinet minister might end their neutrality and join England's side to stop the war, and although it didn't happen as quickly as Anne wanted it, it was a major turning point for all of the targeted innocence as they might finally get the help they deserve. This shows the theme because it is the thing they are hiding from and this shows the first sign of hope that they can go back to their normal lives, and be thankful for the Frank's hospitality.

On this date there was intruders that at first only Mr.Frank and Peter knew about but once the entire Annex knew they all hid in Mr.Van Daan's room as the loud banging of the intruders continued. This a turning point because of the built suspense and the tension that this scene created. It truly made these people realize how real this is and that these were life or death situations. This expresses the theme because even though it was a startling moment, they were all together working as one.

While Anne, Mrs.Van Daan, and Dussel are washing dishes Anne brings up and adult book and her opinion on it which then leads to the grownups blowing up on her saying that she is being raised wrong and that she isn't mature enough to understand. This event sort of contradicts the overall theme as these people should be grateful for the Frank's hospitality but instead they are screeching at their daughter and questioning the way they raised her.

In this event it shows the Van Daan's getting jealous of the kindness that Mr.Kraler and Miep shows Mrs.Frank on her birthday, and later on steal food. Mrs.Frank finds out and then explodes on them saying they have no respect for what her and her family have done for them and that they should leave. Miep then says that the war might end soon, the Van Daan's apologize and thank the Frank's for the chance to live through this, this shows the theme of helping those around you no matter what.

Sometimes you have to sacrifice your food, space, and time to help those around you. All of these events show the theme because it shows this group of people living together dealing with common dilemmas of intruders, arguments, starvation, fear, and the overall loss of hope as the war continues. However unlike some of the other targeted group, in these events it shows the eight people showing gratitude for the roof over their head and the appreciation for protection from the outside world.
