    Liesel Vs. grave diggers
    In this part of the book, Liesel's brother had just died on the train to their new home. Two days after her brother dies, their mother goes to some grave diggers to bury his body. During the burial, one of the diggers drops a book and leaves it. Wanted the book, but she had to get past the diggers first. Soon enough, she grabs the book before the digger could notice it was missing. Later on, this would be Liesel's first book that she has ever read and the book helped her learn how to read.

    Liesel was playing soccer with Rudy and the other boys on the street when Pfiffikus, one of their stern neighbors, showed up. The tradition for the children was to mock him whistling, which he was always doing when he was walking. Liesel decided to join them by calling his name and whistling. When this happened, he started to chase them down the street, but he was not able to catch her. This encounter would soon to be one of her first meetings with someone stern like Pfiffikus.

    The first time Liesel went to school, she could not read or write as well as the other children in her class. She was made fun of by all of the kids, calling her dummkoph or stupid. She was really pushed over the edge by Ludwig when he taunted her by asking her to help him read a sentence from a book. When this happened, Liesel knocked him to the ground, leaving him with a broken nose and her getting in trouble with her teachers. This fight would cause the other children to respect her.

    Before now, Liesel and Rudy had joined a group of boys that stole from local farms for food. However, even though they had a risk of being caught by the farmer, they managed to go undetected every time. This time, they weren't so luck. While robbing one of the potato farmers, one of the boys saw that the farmer was running towards them with an ax. While they were making their escape, Rudy got caught in the barbed wire fence and Liesel got him out before the farmer got to them.

    When Liesel's mom gets fired by the Hermanns, she decides to take revenge by stealing a book. She and Rudy go there at night and Liesel climbs throught the window to sneak in. Once she's in, she realizes she has to be stealthy or she will get cought. Right as she grabs the book, she hears footsteps. She urgently gets out and they run as quickly as possible away from the house. Little did they know, Ilsa Herman already knew about the book thief.

    One day when Liesel and Tudy were walking, they crossed paths with Viktor Chemmel, a boy they stole things with and that went to Hitler Youth with Rudy. When he sees them, he goes up to Liesel and steals her book. She tries to get it back from him, but he ends up throwing the book in the river. Luckly, Rudy goes to fetch the book and gives it back to Liesel.

    There were many jewish parades before this one, but this time, she didn't just stand around and watch, trying to find Max. Rudy decided that they should give bread to the jews in secret, just like Liesel's dad did. However, while distributing the bread on the road, one of the soldiers noticed the bread and traced the bread to them. When the soldier found them, they started running and Liesel got kicked by him. This would not be first time she was disgraced by one of these soldiers.

    Frau Holtzafpel, a woman Liesel was reading to, was not coming out of her home when the sirens went off in their town. Her son, Michael asked everyone he knew, including Liesel, to help him get her out of the house before it was too late. When Liesel went up to hr and encouraged her to come with them, she refused to leave. Sadly, Liesel was unable to get her out of the house in time.

    On this day, Liesel was watching another jewish parade when she thought she saw Max. When she went into the road, she ran into one of the soldiers and he threw her down out of the parade. But, she continued her search for Max. Hovever, this time, the soldire wipped her in public. Even though this happened, she found Max in the parade.

    The day of the bombing of Himmel Street, Liesel not only lost her foster parents, but also her best friend, Rudy. The moment the LSE men found Rudy, she was devestated. She kept telling herself that he was still alive and that he would wake up. She tried calling his name, skaking him, even kissing him, but he never woke up.
