  • The Yalta Conference

    The Yalta Conference
    President Franklin D Roosevelt, Prime Minister Wintson Churchill and Premir Jospeh Stalin met together to discuss post-war Europe. This discussion included the division of Diving Germany into four sections (USA, Britian, France, USSR.) They also discussed the issue of Poland which the Soviet Union wanted to keep communist goverment in but the meeting stalled until agreed to let Polan vote on their own goverment. During this meeting the creation of the United Nations happned.
  • The Truman Doctrine

    The Truman Doctrine
    The Truman Doctrine was Harry Truman's speech declaring that the United States would support nations threatened by Communism. During this speech he pledged to contain Communism from Greece and Turkey and provided aid and US military bases in both conountries.
  • The Berlin Blockade Airlift

    The Berlin Blockade Airlift
    During this time west Germany was capitalist while east Germany was communist. Stali created a blcokade to block the allies from West Germany. This put a threat on the 2.5 million peole living in West Germany who could no longer get food and other supplies. Truman didn't want to start a military war so they airlifted supplies into west Germany.
  • NATO (North Atlatic Treaty Organization)

    NATO (North Atlatic Treaty Organization)
    The North Atlantic Treaty Organziaion was an alliance between US, Canada, Belgium, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Norway and Portugal. This alliance agreed that in the event of war, the nations were to support and protect each other. "an armed attack against one or more of them, shall be considered an attack against them all."
  • Soviet Atomic Threat

    Soviet Atomic Threat
    The Soviet Union tested an atomic bomb which heighted Americas concerns of the war. This meant the US no longer had the upperhand in weapon technology ad Truman wanted to create a new weapon that would put American technology back on top. This led to the approval of the development of the hydrogen bomb.
  • China Falls to Communism

    China Falls to Communism
    The capital of China Peking (Beijing) fell to communist lead Mao Zedong which they claimed the goverment for all of China. Many people saw this as a stain on America for not containing communism well enough because it was now the goverment of the most populous nation in Asia.
  • The Korean War

    Japan annexed Korea and eventually the allies agreed on a solution of soviet soliders surrendering north of the 38th parallel. Thinking this was going to be a temporary solution but Korea is still divided at the 38th parallel.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
    Soviet Union lauched the first man-made satalite into orbit. This causes tension because they were ahead of everyone else and this worries many people. Soviet Union had a technoligical advancement.
  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    Cuban Missle Crisis
    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a conflict between Soviet Union and United States over missiles placed in Cuba by the Soviets. This was the closest point in the Cold War that we came to nuclear war. This was the most tense point of the Cold War.
  • Berlin Wall is Demolished

    Berlin Wall is Demolished
    The Berlin Wall is demolished and is still to this day a large symbol of the Cold War. It was a huge celebration of the end of the war because people from both sides got to come together. People in Berlin still see this day and a holiday and celebrate.
