Soviet invades Afghanistan The Soviet Union invades Afghanistan, thus causing the U.S to supply the Taliban with necessary weapons to fight them off. After that was done, the U.S left Afghanistan to cope on their own with no U.S help. This then makes the taliban want to seek revenge against the United States which is what happened on 9/11.
