  • United Nations

  • Iron Curtain

    Stalin creates the Iron Curtain dividing Eastern and Western Europe.

    The Truman Doctrine (the US support to countries who rejected communism), Marshall announces an aid program to help rebuild European economies after the end of World War II that will become known as the Marshall Plan.
  • Soviet Blockade of West Berlin

    Soviet Union blocks all road and rail traffic to and from West Berlin; a cut off from the outside world.
  • Federal Republic of Germany

    The Federal Republic of Germany is formally established as a separate and independent nation. Later the communist German Democratic Republic is founded.
  • Soviet's first Atomic Bomb

    In 1949, the Soviets tested an atom bomb of their own. It shocked the United States because they were not expecting them to possess nuclear weapon knowledge.
  • Republic of China

    There was a ceremony in which Mao Zedong, proclaimed The People's Republic of China was formally established, with its national capital at Beijing.

    The Federal Republic of Germany joins NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization; a mutual defense thet wanted Soviet expansion in Europe. It also forms the Bundeswehr, the first Germany army to exist after Hitler's fall.

  • Fall of Berlin Wall

    Fall of the Berlin Wall, germans from both sides danced on the wall. Families were reunited. German flags unfurled. Berlin was no longer a divided city.
