    75,000 Union troops lead by Gen. John Pope are defeated by 55,000 Confederate troops lead by Gen. Stonewall Jackson.

    The bloodiest day in American military history. Genral Robert E. Lee is stopped by union general McClellan, by nightfall 26,000 men are deadm wounded, or missing. Lee withdraws into Virgina

    President Lincoln frees all the slaves in Confederate territories and emphaizes on the elistment of black union soilders.

    Union Army under Gen. Hooker is deafeated at Chancellorsville VA, by Robert E. Lee. Stonewall Jackson is mortally wounded by own troops. Union looses 17,000 out of 130,000 and Confederates loose 13,000 out of 60,000.

    The tides of the war are shifted against the south when confederates are deafeted at the Battle of Gettysburg in PA.
  • Vicksburg

    Vicksburg
    Vicksburg the last confederate stronghold on the Mississippi River surrenders to the Union Army. The Confederacy is now split in half with the Union having control of the MS. River.
  • Anti-Draft Riots in NYC

    Anti-draft riots include arson and murder of blacks by poor immigrant whites. 120 people including men, women and children are left dead and $2 million dollars in damage are caused.

    Confederate victory at Chickamauga TN leaves Gen. Rosecrans' union troops trapped in Chattanooga under confederate siege.

    President Lincoln gives a 2minuet speech at the Gettysburg battlefield that makes the battlefield a national cemetary.
