They will be her foster parents. Rosa Huberman tends to swear a lot she would say Saumensch or Saukerl or Arschloch. Sau refers to pigs. Saumensch is for a girl. Saukerl is for a boy. Arschloch can be translated directly into “A-hole.” Hans plays the accordian and Liesel likes him immediately.

That is where she meets Rudy Stiener her future best friend and Rudy finds out that he likes Liesel.

The Nazi party has a big party at Molching and Liesel steals her second book, "The Shoulder Shrug," at a book burning there. The mayor's wife saw her steal it.

She saw Liesel steal the book but is kind and shows her the library.

Max is a Jew and his father saved Hans Huberman's life. Hans promised Max's mother he would repay the favor someday so Max thought he would help him.

Hans remembers Max and lets him inside to hide for a while.

Max fights with Hitler and Liesel sees her brother.

Max felt bad because he didn't have anything to give Liesel so he made her a book. He painted over the pages of his copy of "Mein Kampf" to make it.

A bully had thrown it into the river. She had gotten it from the mayor's library.

Max collapses by the fire. Rosa blames the snow but Hans blames Hitler.

Max finally wakes up out of his coma like condition. Liesel had gathered some presents for him like a nutcracker, and other things out of nature.

Rudy runs 4 of the races at the Hitler group fair. He wins all but the last one.

Everyone on Himmel street goes into one basement. Liesel read "The Whistler" out loud during it.

Hans told her he almost wrote her a letter and signed it with her mothers name.

Liesel read "The Whistler" during the air raid and Frau Holtzapfel liked it so she hired Liesel to read to her.

Max is convinced it isn't safe for them to help him anymore so he leaves.
