    Bobby was at the World Championship Games and he started experiencing symptoms of kidney failure and became really sick. He needed dialysis. Bobby thinks dialysis is a serious matter and understands it now. "I realize it wasn't like a broken leg where you set it and six weeks later, the cast comes off. There was a lot to learn." -Bobby McMullen

    Dialysis Routine
    Now Bobby has a routine starting with skiing in the morning, and then going to dialysis in the afternoon three days a week for three hours.
  • A matching kidney and pancreas donor found

    Within only 20 days after his successful double transplant he had good lab results so he went back to skiing and enjoy his life. "The idea that I had a new pancreas and would no longer be a diabetic was pretty amazing." -Bobby McMullen

    When Bobby had the chence to sesume skiing he was happy. He started training with a team full-time but then he started experiencing symptoms of acute renal rejection symptoms.

    By February he was back on dialysis and dialysis taught him more about being compiant and fighting kidney disease. "I worked very hard to be compliant-never missed a treatment. If I had to change in my labs, i worked with my dietitian." -Bobby McMullen

    New news about second double transplant
    Bobby always wanted to get better but never had a specific reason to. But after an appointment with a special DaVite nurse. He soon fell in love with her. Bobby threw up on his love, Therese, and thinks thats the reason it all happened. "I met Therese after I started dialysis and had lost 40-45 pounds so I was pretty sick." This was a new determination for Bobby to get back his health. Bobby even added his name on a list for a kidney/pancreas transplant. After that he focused to his dialysis.

    After his transplant in 2003, Bobby has been feeling great and his energy level has been amazing. Now he can ride bikes as much as he wants to.
  • Races and mountain bike events

    Races and mountain bike events
    Bobby has been racing a lot mostly since 2004. Since then he has raced 25 downhill races. What made it more challenging for Bobby was that he has to ride with a guide. Not only does he ride the races, he goes to bike events. Since then, he spent 8-12 hours on mountain bike events a year. Being blind with disadvantages doesn't hold him back. When Bobby gets sick, he wants to ge better so he can ride again. Bobby has dedicated his time not being sick or injured into bike events. He's determined.

    Bobby get excited before races. He and his guide both have adrenaline rushes and eager to race.

    Bobby raced the Downyville California race with his guide. They completed this race easy with enough practice riding the trails.

  • Summer in Europe
