As the SECOND CONTINENTAL CONGRESS is being held, the BRITISH FORT TICONDEROGA is taken by COLONEL BENEDICT ARNOLD and ETHAN ALLEN. BOSTON is taken by the BRITISH, but is soon taken back by GENERAL GEORGE WASHINGTON. -
Second Continental Congress
It is decided that GEORGE WASHINGTON command a CONTINENTAL ARMY. The OLIVE BRANCH PETITION for peace is signed by the CONGRESS but is declined by KING GEORGE III. -

While the BRITISH had the upper hand in the war with money, professional military groups, and power, PATRIOTS had more people, less experience, and a goal for independence. Both sides knew this wouldn't be an easy fight, but it was definitely worth fighting for. -

The DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE is drafted by THOMAS JEFFERSON, JOHN ADAMS, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, ROBERT R. LIVINGSTON, and ROGER SHERMAN. The document gave colonists the ability to break away from BRITAIN. -
