Tess goes home from Tantridge and finds a letter from Mrs. d'Uberville offering her a job. Tess tries to find a job closer to home but cant so she decides to go

Its the day Tess leaves and her mom makes her dress in her best clothes ! Mrs. Durbeyfield gets nervous how this will go.

Alec is driving the carriage way too fast and Tess is trying to get his to stop. He acts weird and makes her grab his waist instead of slowing it down.

Tess goes to the d'Uberville house and discovers that Mrs. d'Uberville is blind. She goes to pet her birds and she tells her she has to whistle to them everyday, but Tess doesnt know how to whistle so Alec teaches her, but hes weird about it.

Tess realizes that she likes the market. So she goes again, but she comes during a fair. She wants to go home and didnt want alec to take her so she waited for her friends, but they were all drunk. So Alec came up with his horse and takes her away.

On their way home Alec brings her to the woods to let the horse roam for a bit, but then they realize theyre lost in the fog. He tries to be a smooth nice guy and gives her his jacket and tells her that he bought her family a horse. But that nice guy act fades really fast, and while shes sleeping he takes advantage of her.

Tess realizes that she doesnt love Alec whatsoever and decides to go to her house for a little while. Alec finds her in the road and insists on driving her the rest of the way but she refuses, then he tries to play the good guy act again and say tell him if she needs help with anything. She goes home and her mom is surprised shes back but Tess tells her mother that she never warned her the danger she faced.

Tess is in a very depressive state, her friends came and tried to cheer her up but but as soon as they left she was in the state as before. She tries to go to church but people are whispering and judging her so she starts to take walks at night to help her.

Tess starts to get better and starts to help the village with harvest. The baby she had with Alec is sick and she gets scared because hes not christened so she does it, but then the baby passes. She has to bury her own child.

On her way to work she finds these new places of scenery that she finds just enchanting. She then walks through the burial ground of her ancestors

While Tess is working at the dairy farm and recognizes a man from somewhere. She sees angel from the MayDay dance, he is the son of the Wessex clergyman but like the agricultural life better

Angel is the most talented of all his three brothers, he didnt join the clurgy at Cambridge because he thought hes be dishonest to the churches doctrines. He is very sweet and shy and wants to learn about farming. He likes Tess but shes keeping her guard up to protect herself.

Tess finds out that Angel is breaking the rules and lining up her favorite cows. She walks into the garden and hears him playing the harp, they have a very sentimental conversation, and Angel is surprised that such a young girl could have such a dark view on life. Shes curious about his education and he offers her help but says that the wisdom shes looking for isnt in books

Tess and Angel have been hanging out more, and shes starting to feel the happiest shes felt. They feel like theyre the only two people on the earth.

The butter on the dairy farm isnt churning and theres a legend that says the butter does churn when two people from the farm are in love. Both her and Angel have feelings for each other but she doesnt want to get married because shes ashamed of her past.

Customers keep complaining that the butter is sour and they realize that the cows have been eating from garlic weeds. Tess starts to feel light headed, she sits down, and Angel comforts her

It starts pouring and flooding and Angel offers to carry all the women over, they all notice he takes the longest time with Tess so she starts to avoid him. The women confess their love to Angel and Tess gets jealous because she loves him too, and starts to worry whether it was too late for her.

Tess and Angel are milking cows and confess their love for each other

Tess decides that she cant be happy in Marlott and leaves to be a milkmaid at the Talbothays dairy. She wants to start a new life where no one knows anything about her.
