  • Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity)

    Wi-Fi was developed in 1991 by the NCR Corporation/AT&T in Nieuwegein, Netherlands. Wi-Fi changed how people communicated with one another by allowing the widespread use of wireless technology in homes, work, schools, public spaces, etc. It ultimately changed the way people accessed the internet moving forward.
  • Smartphones

    Smartphones
    IBM announced the very first smartphone in 1992, but it wasn't released until 1994. Smartphones heavily impacted society as we see today because they allow the opportunity to easily communicate, retrieve information, our media consumption, and how we interact socially.
  • DVD's

    DVD's
    DVDs were being developed in 1995 by a collaboration between several companies. The four main companies that had a significant part in the development of DVDs were Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, and Philips. DVDs changed the world because people began getting rid of their VHS. DVDs had better quality, no longer having to rewind the tape, they came with special features like being able to skip, and they were much easier to store in your home.
  • Adobe Flash

    Adobe Flash
    Adobe Flash was invented in 1996 by Jonathan Gay, who was the co-founder of FutureWave Software. Adobe Flash was revolutionary as it heavily impacted society at the time. It changed web design, how YouTubers began editing their videos, helped with creating web-based games, and much more. In December 2020, Adobe announced the end of Flash support and distribution due to performance issues and security breaches.

    The MP3 Player was developed in 1997 by a South Korean company SaeHan Information Systems. The MP3 Player changed the way we consumed music. It allowed you to carry this library of music in just your pocket.
