    The first movie was shown in the theatres, it had no sound or colour and only lasted 14 minutes. This film was called 'A Trip to the Moon' and it was a french film. This film was directed, produced and written by Georges Méliès. Georges Méliès also starred in the film along side Victor André, Bleuette Bernon, Jeanne d'Alcy and Henri Delannoy.

    First film to use colour
    Colour movies were expensive and difficult to produce, so it took a while for all films to use colour.
    The Gulf Between was the first film to use technicolour, it was produced in 1917. The first feature-length sound film in color was MGM's The Viking, 1928. It had a synchronized score and sound effects, but no audible dialog.

    The first movie to have a synchronized sound track was Fritz Lang's Siegfried in 1925, with muscial songs but no dialogue. The Jazz Singer, released in 1927, featured Al Jolson singing a few songs also. When the first all-talking film, Lights of New York, was released in 1928, the films with sound had become more popular. The advent of sound created the question of how to provide for the differing languages of the international audience.
