  • The Albany Plan of Union

    This was a failed proposal by the 7 northern colonies in anticipation of the French and Indian war. This proposal urged unification under one crown.
  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War, globally known as the 7 years war, was an important conflict involving the French and British. The war was sparked by competition for Indian lands in the Ohio River Valley.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris ended the French and Indian war and gave Britain control of France's territories west of the Mississippi River. Spain was compensated with the vast Louisiana and the French were left with no territory in North America.
  • Proclamation Act of 1763

    King George III issued the proclamation which drew an imaginary line along the crest of the Appalachian Mountains from Canada to Georgia. This line forbade Americans to go west and disturb the Indians on their Incestorial lands and settlers already on the land were told to leave.
  • The Boston Massacre

    A violent confrontation between British soldiers and a Boston mob, 5 colonists were killed. Parliament then later repealed all the Townshend duties except for the tea tax, which the king wanted to keep as a symbol of british authority.
  • The Coercive Acts

    The Coercive Acts, also known as the Intolerable Acts, was a set of 4 parliamentary measures that required the colonists to pay for the damages caused by the Boston Tea Party. They closed the port of Boston, imposed a military government, forced citizens to house soldiers, etc.
  • Lexington and Concord

    The first battle of the American Revolution. Massachusetts colonists defied British authority, and outnumbered and out fought the Redcoats. This resulted in a major victory for the colonists in the fight for independence.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    The Battle resulted in a British victory but they sustained twice the casualties as the americans and they lost many officers as well. The patriots then retreated back to their lines outside of Boston. This battle inspired more colonists to join the army and gave them courage to stand up to Britain.
  • The Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge

    This was a minor conflict between Patriot and Loyalist forces in North Carolina. Loyalist forces anticipated support from a British army arriving on the coast, the Patriots then fought and then solidified their control of North Carolina, successfully thwarting British invasion of the southern colonies.
  • Independence

    Document drafted by Thomas Jefferson and adopted by the Second Continental Congress that officially announced the thirteen colonies' break with Great Britain.
