Taxes

  • Navigation Act

    No specific date. Items could only be shipped within the English empire. The British empire was contended and they too advantage of it. The colonists were irritated and they started the American Revolution.
  • Sugar Act

    The British placed taxes on sugar, wine, coffee and other imported sweets. The colonist were very upset, they started a boycott, and thought that they were being controled by the British for their money. The British government hoped that they will sell their good and get more money by taxes.
  • Stamp Act

    All printed materials need a special stamp; legal papers, playing cards, newspaper. The British repealed the Stamp act.
  • Declaratory Act

    Passed after the repeal of the Stamp Act. Declared British authority to make and pass laws for the colonies. The colonist were infuriated and lead to the Revolutionary War.
  • Townshend Act

    Four measures enacted to raise revenueto pay the salaries of British officials in the colonies. It taxed imported iteams; glass, lead, paints, paper, silk, and tea. The colonist referred the violent confrontation as the Boston Massacre and demanded justice.
