Tina (age 6 months) was fed after crying and being fussy. First Stage infancy, trust versus mistrust. Being fed after crying builds trust. Feeding Tina when she is hungry, teaches Tina that she can trust her need for nourishment will be met. -
What's for Dinner?
Tina (2 years old) chose macaroni for dinner instead of steak.
Erikson's second stage: autonomy versus shame and doubt. Tina begins to express a need for independence and control over themselves and the world around them. Presenting options and allowing Tina to choose makes her feel like she's done a good job. -
Together?
Tina (25 years old) decides to move in with her boyfriend (of 5 years) at his apartment. This is Erikson's stage 6 Intimacy vs. Isolation. Tina has been vulnerable enough to learn and experience what love is.
