    Fire and The birth of Sophie

    A fire breaks loose in Madeline Sophies hometown and Sophies mother unexpectadly gives birth to her daughter prematurely

    When Sophie was born the country of France was going through a political crisis called the french revolution
  • Louis becomes Sophies godfather

    Sophie is baptised and her godfather is her brother Louis. Louis guided Sophie spiritually and taught her throughout her childhood. He taught her the same studies he would teach boys such as latin and maths
  • Louis moves to Paris

    Louis moved to Paris to study. Sophie began to live a more carefree life. Later once he was finished he returned to continue Sophie's education. It had eventually become unsafe to remain in Joigny so he moved back to Paris. Louis was imprisoned because he was a seminary. Once he was released he requested Sophie move to Paris to continue her education with him.
  • Sophie lives in Paris

    Sophie lived in Paris with 3 other women. After being there for a little while Louis decided to return to Joigny and Sophie joined him. Once the politics had eased a bit she moved back to Paris and spent time in prayer.
  • Father Joseph Varin

    Father Joseph Varin met Sophie while looking for women to join a new religious society, the society of the sacred heart. Even though Sophie was intent on becoming a Carmelite nun, though Varin managed to convince her. Three other women and Sophie made their first consecration in front of Mary. This was the beggining of the society of the sacred heart.
  • First school

    The first school was made in Amiens. It had 20 boarders and 160-day pupils. The principle didnt meet Varins satisfaction so with her gone Sophie was appointed Superior. After a year she had to give up teaching to take on the roll of administartion.
  • Spirituality

    Sophie spiritual leadership was about the love of God. She was commited to a deep life of prayer and reflection.
  • Travels

    Sophie sent a letter to the entire society saying that the mother school would be in Paris. During Sophie's career she travelled throughout Europe.
  • Sophies death and cannonization

    Sophie died in Paris when she was 85. She was beatified by Pope Pius X and became a saint by Pope Pius XI. In 2009 her body was returned to the Sacred Heart Chapel Church.
