PL 94-142
PL 94-142, also known as the Education for all Handicapped Children, was enacted at this time to guarentee a FAPE for all children, regardless of disability. The name of this law was later changed to the IDEA. -
Henrich Hudson Central School v. Rowley
A court case that showed that even though a student is not making 100% progress, as long as she is achieveing progress that is good enough.
A deaf girl's parents wanted an interpreter, but the school district refused. She did not end up with an interpreter. -
Hall v. Vance County School Board
In this case, it was concluded that any goals written in an IEP should be ones that are realistically capable of completion. This is a case that used the Rowley standard. It also showed that every case should be taken different. -
Honig v. Doe
This case dealt with the stay put clause. A student received a change of placement when he was moved from schools during a hearing, which is not legal. -
ADA
Americans with Disabilites Act was enacted to ensure the accessability of all. It ensured that all public areas be accessable by the physically handicap. Also, helped the disabled to get jobs. -
NCLB
NCLB, No Child Left Behind, was enacted to ensure all students achieve their specified reading and math levels by 2014. Tried to hold teachers accountable for their students.
