Space Inventions

  • The Telescope

    The Telescope
In 1609 Galileo Galilei invented the Telescope. It allowed for a closer look at space and the moon. Using the telescope, Galileo “discovered” the sun spots and the moon’s craters. The telescope allowed for an easier look at space and it improved space knowledge by a better look at the stars.

  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
Sputnik was the very first satellite in space. Created by the Soviet Union it allowed for the Soviets to learn a lot more about Earth’s atmosphere and transmit radio signals to and from Earth. It also made a big impact on our education system. The western countries decided that the Soviets were smarter than them and improved children’s education. It also sparked the space race which made a big impact on space exploration. Therefore Sputnik was one of the largest inventions in space exploration.
  • The First Spacesuit Jan 1, 1962

The First Spacesuit Jan 1, 1962
In Jan 1, 1962 the first spacesuit was invented it was originally made to go to Mercury but failed in the pressure. Not much else was said about the invention
  • Vostok 1

    Vostok 1
The Vostok 1 spacecraft allowed Yuri, the first man in space, a chance to venture into the heavens. The Vostok 1 opened up more possibilities in the space program to let mankind know that it is possible to survive in space with a spacecraft. The Vostok 1 also paved the road for the space race to continue.
  • Apollo 11

    Apollo 11
The famous Apollo 11 spacecraft was launched and landed on the moon. The spacecraft was finally perfected after its other relatives failed to travel the distance. The Apollo 11 was the first spacecraft to land on the moon and come back with the astronauts. The spacecraft sadly ended the race but it made extraordinary progress. It proved that mankind was able to land on other planets.
  • Salyut 1 Apr 19, 1971

    Salyut 1 Apr 19, 1971
Salyut was the very first space station in space. It allowed humans to rest there while researching about space. It also allowed for long stays in space to watch and examine the stars. But it failed to resume in the atmosphere and crash landed back to the Earth. It was replaced by another satellite from the USSR.
  • Pioneer 10 Mar 2, 1972

    Pioneer 10 Mar 2, 1972
Pioneer 10 was the first manmade object to ever make it past the solar system and past even Pluto. It showed us that we can go past the solar system and into interstellar space with our present technology. It raised our hope of ever traveling to interstellar space in spacecraft.
  • Columbia Apr 12, 1981

    Columbia Apr 12, 1981
Columbia was the first reusable spacecraft able to be used multiple times. Columbia was the second of the reusable spacecraft. The first was the spacecraft Enterprise, this spacecraft unfortunately didn’t make it into space it was merely a test subject so that the second spacecraft, Columbia, could travel to safely to space without fear of something gone wrong. Columbia improved space exploration for NASA because it was reusable and it didn’t leave “space trash” like the usual Apollo. Columbia i
