The birth of NASA was the start of the comeback in the race to space against the Soviet Union. Thats when we kicked it into high gear. -
Vostok 1
Vostok 1, launched by the Soviet Union, sent the first man into space. He orbited the Earth once. -
Freedom 7
The Freedom & launched the first American into space. This gave the US confidence to send more people up into space. -

This luanched the first US man to orbit the Earth,but not the first in space. -
Surveyor
This was the first man made satellite to land on the moon. Suprisingly, it didn't sink like most people thought it would. -
Apollo 11
This was a rocket sent up by the americans. Three people were aboard the rocket. It soon deployed the Eagle with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin in. -
Man on the moon!
The Eagle landed on the moon 6 hours before Neil Armstrong walked out of the ship onto the moon. This was basicaly the end of the space race.
