    When Bethany started surfing, she was a natural right from the beginning. Her parents didn't expect her to surf competatively, but they thought she was ready for it, and they were right. Bethany won first Place at her first surfing competition at the Rell Sun Menehune on the island of Oahu when she was only eight years old.

  • Shark Attack

    On a sunny Hawaiian Halloween morning, Bethany Hamilton had her arm bitten off by a fourteen foot tiger shark along Tunnels Beach, Kauai. She was with best friend Alana Blanchard, and Alana's father and brother. She was rushed to the hospital where she discovered that she had lost sixty% of her blood, and her left arm.
  • First Surf After The Attack

    On Thanksgiving, less than one month after Bethany was attacked by the shark, she gets back on board at a little spot in Kilauea with her close family and friends. She tries to get up, but she can't do it at first. Finally, she stands up ad is riding her first wave after the attack.

    Bethany Wins the EPSY award for best comeback athlete in 2004 because of her amazing recovery from her shark attack, and getting back on board.

    Bethany Hamilton's book Soul Surfer about her personal, and surfing life and shark attack, is published. She doesn't even want to write a book at first, but her family tells her it will be a good way to spread her story and faith, so Bethany agrees. Her book will become a huge success.
  • Bethany Becomes A Pro Surfer

    Bethany turns professional where she will become number eleven in the world. She will travel worldwide to different surfing competitions, and will compete against the worlds greatest surfers.
