identity V confusion
Jane (age 17) has been staying out past her curfew every night for the past two weeks to hang out with her friends and defy her parents after she got in trouble for failing a math test. However, she is starting to feel guilty for neglecting her studies and responsibilities. Relevance to Erikson's stages; Jane is discovering who she really is, she was upset by her parents reaction to her failure and is defying them, however, she is starting to remember that's not who she is. -
generativity V stagnation
Jane (age 46) is the manager of a successful business, though it is not part of her job she is usually acting as a mentor to her employees and supporting their learning on the job. Relevance to Erikson's stages; Jane is an active member of her work community, she acts as a guide and benefits other people by stimulating their learning. -
integrity V despair
Jane (age 79) spends her days lounging and reflecting on her long life, when she thinks about her life she decides that she has lived a happy successful life. Relevance to Erikson's stages; Jane is nearing the end of her life, she reflects on how she lived her life and whether she is or was happy.
