  • Cuban nation starts to rebel

    Cuba was under Spanish rule since Columbus had discovered the Americas. Towards the late 1800's, the Cuban people had had enough with the harsh rule from their parent country and began to rebel. In 1895, they pushed heavily for independance from Spain.

    Cubans gain America's help

    Over the next few years, many Cubans spoke up about their people's struggles in their homeland, which gained attention from American newspapers. Many people empathized the Cubans and began to support them.
  • Sinking of the USS Maine

    In Havana Harbor, off the coast of Cuba, the USS Maine sunk abruptly with no explanation. That was the point at which Americans became fully involved in the war to help Cuba become independant.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The war officially ended when the Treaty of Paris was signed. Spain agreed to allow Cuba its independance, give up Guam and Puerto Rico to the U.S. and grant the U.S. the Philipines for $20,000.

    Philipino Revolt

    After the U.S. gained control over the Philipines, the people started to rebel against the U.S.'s control. The Filipino people wanted independance, just as Cuba was granted independance from the Spanish-American War. In 1902, the independance was granted to them, but the U.S. still had some control over the country.
  • Assassination of Austrian Arch-Duke

    Franz Ferdinand, Arch-Duke of Austria, was killed by Gavrilo Princip, a young Serbian, while he and his wife were in a parade in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The young man was part of a Seriban terrorist group, who supplied him the weapons for the attack. Within an hour of being hit, the Arch-Duke and his wife both died.

    Eventually, the Middle East, Italy, Japan and the U.S. would become involved with the war. In the end, millions of people had died and Germany, Austria-Hungary and Turkey were left as torn countries.

    WW1

    After the assassination of the Austrian Arch-Duke, Austria-Hungary declared war on Seribe(home of the assassin). Serbia had already been in contact with Russia, gaining their support, which startled Germany. Germany then declared war on Russia and launched and attack on France, one of Russia's allies. In order to launch that attacke, they had to invade Belgium, going against their neutrality deal, which caused Great Britain to become involved.

    After 4 years of war, the now weakend German country agreed to an armistice with the Allies, ending the war.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    After months of discussion, the Treaty of Versailles was put in place, setting in stone the policies that the leaders of the nations involved created. The final Document had 15 parts and 440 articles, of which included boundaries/punishments of the Central Powers (mainly Germany) and information about the newly created League of Nations.

    After leaving the army from WW1, Hitler became interested in politics. He became the leader of the Nazi party

    Nazi Rise to Power

    After years of gaining support, the Nazi party came to power in 1933 with Hitler as the ruler. Germany was in a totalitarian state under the Nazi rule.

    WWII

    Germany broke many of the policies put in place by the Treaty of Versailles, including militarizing their country. The beginning of WWII is marked by the invasion of Poland by Germany. Eventually 12 countries became involved in the war. After 6 years of war, and millions of deaths, Germany surrendered and the war ended.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Japan was imperialising and the U.S. did not want to be involved in it, so they put on trading restrictions. After Japan found out about this, the government sent hundreds of Japanese fighter planes to attack a military base in Hawaii. That caused the U.S. to join the war.
