    I made this connection because it shows how when the European people came, they made a profit off the land and they still do it.

    This draws a comparison to the propaganda films that were used to encourage people to go to war in WWII.

(history.com) this is making the connection that his father was in the Pearl harbor attack and the horror of the situation.

    began its Central Pacific Campaign against Japan by seizing the heavily fortified, Japanese-held island of Betio in the Tarawa Atoll in the Gilbert Islands.(history.com) “On Tarawa he had seen the bodies of men who had died facedown in shallow water.”(David Guterson pg 73) The battle of Tara was a brutal battle fought in the retaliation of Japan during ww2, it was the first time the us had battled in the pacific region.

The invasion was part of Operation Iceberg, a complex plan to invade and occupy the Ryukyu Islands, including Okinawa."(history.com) This was a significant event in ww2, and many lives were lost as a result of the battle.
