    In 1763 France/British singed the treaty of paris,france gave up claim of north america and recived the suger-producing island of guadeloupe,in the caribbean.The only parts of new france still in the hands of the french were saint-pierre and miquelon near newfoundland.Now the british controlled most of north america.

    The seven years war started in the ohio river.As a british force led by general washington marched into the valley,the general would soon be the first presidant of the u.s.a.The british suffered defeat as of the next year too.As the french had adopted First nations battle tactics New france was secure.

    IIn 1755 the governor of nova scotia chrles lawrence gave the acadians an uliatum but the acadians wanted to remain neutral so they could carry on with there way of life.They promised not to side with the french but would'nt take the oath.When they found 300 acadians armed defending the french fort the british decided to deport the acadians.10,000 of them were deported.Because they refused loyalty to britain.

    That spring the briish collected their army arriving at fort louisbourg.the soldiers went ashore with thier cannons.They proceded for a siege.In the fort resources were low.Then for seven weeks they bomberded the city with cannonballs.The frewnch shortly surrendered.

    Major General james wplf led a fleet of 200 ships carrying 9000 soldiers plus 18000 sailors.The french commander,Marcus de montclaim had 1600 troops.French and british bombarded each other for about 9 wees and quebec was in ruins.Damage was done to the to the fort,but no troops were released,winter was setting in,the british planned to attak were french were weakest.After a bloody battle the french fled to montreal.Montreal eventually surrendered.

    Pontiac a leader of he odawa convinced several First nations to drive out the british cause the british did not give gifts wich builds trust and the english started to take there lands.In may tthe First nations laid saige to the forts along the tradeing fronteir.They hoped the frenh would aid them,but they did'nt and after the british sent roops to fight,the allience fell apart.

    The british did not want to evict the canadians fron there home, however the did want to assimilate them.(get them to be more like them,drop there lanugage and culture)In october 1763 king george singed the royal proclamation of 1763,which laid out the british goverments plans for the colony.To attract anglophones to quebec,the proclamation brought in british insttiutons and laws.It also prevented settlement west of the appalachians.This forced american colonists who wanted land to move to queb

    The british did not want troble in quebec as well.They needed to keep the colony loyal.They decided the best way to do that was to reconize the canadiens rights that had been taen away by the proclamtion.Therefore in 1774,britain passed a law with new plans for the colony.

    The attempt to turn quebec into a colony witha british identity failed.The canadiens hed developed such a stong sense of identity that they could not be "made" british.They were determend to survive as a people.Only few hundred english-speaking newcomers were attracted to quebec.Meanwhile in the thirteen colonies,the colonists were becoming rrestless under british rule.
