    She was born Marguerite Alacoque on July 22 in L’hautecour, France.

    She promised to join a religious order that was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
    She also took a vow of chastity at a very early age, which resulted in ridicule by some of her family members.

  • Joined the religious order

    At the age of 27 on August 25, 1671, she joined the Visitation community in Paray-le-Monial.

  • Visions

    In 1673, she had a vision of Jesus who showed her his Sacred Heart for the first time, while she was contemplating upon the Blessed Sacrament. The second time she had a vision of the Sacred Heart she was told to establish a liturgical feast.

    Saint Margaret Mary was canonized on May 13, 1920.
